Livonia Buzzing with Community and Culture this Weekend

LIVONIA9/19/2025

Livonia residents have a packed weekend ahead with local and regional events for all ages and interests. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a sports fanatic, there's something to get you out and about on September 20 and 21.

Livonia's historic Greenmead Park is the place to be, offering two distinct events. On Saturday, September 20, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Alexander Blue House will host a "Bee Day Party." This event offers a unique chance to learn about honeybees directly from Greenmead's own beekeepers and includes a presentation and lunch. While a fascinating experience for all, remember that advance registration is required. On Sunday, September 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., you can step back in time with the Village Tour at Greenmead. This self-paced tour of the historic village will have docents in each building to share stories and facts, making it a perfect outing for families. Admission is just $5 for adults and $3 for ages 5-17.

Metro Detroit's Weekend Lineup

For those looking to venture beyond Livonia's borders, the Metro Detroit area is buzzing with major events. Sports fans have a couple of big options. The Detroit Tigers are in town for a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves at Comerica Park. The games are Saturday at 1:10 p.m. and Sunday at 1:40 p.m., with special promotions like "Fiesta Tigres" and "Chevy Sunday Kids Day." Soccer fans can catch Detroit City FC at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, September 20, as they take on Lexington SC at 7:00 p.m.

The weekend also boasts a great selection of concerts and cultural experiences. Music lovers can head to Pine Knob Music Theatre on Saturday for RIFF FEST, a multi-band rock festival featuring Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace. On Sunday, the Fox Theatre hosts a performance by the progressive metal band Dream Theater, while the Royal Oak Music Theatre presents Our Last Night - The Final Tour at 6:30 p.m. For a more intimate musical experience, Candlelight Concerts are happening at various venues on Saturday with different themes like "Rings & Dragons." Additionally, the Masonic Temple is offering a tour on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. for a look at the historic landmark. Families can also check out the 11th Annual Girls in Aviation Day & Women's Resource Fair at Coleman A. Young International Airport on Saturday, a free event focused on STEM.

Local Sports Action

While the professional teams are busy, our local schools have a few games on the schedule. Madonna University will be busy with home games on Saturday, September 20. The women's volleyball team plays Siena Heights at 2:00 p.m., followed by the men's soccer team taking on Aquinas College at 3:00 p.m. in Livonia. Clarenceville High School is also active with both JV and Varsity Volleyball teams competing in tournaments on Saturday morning.
