Livonia Shines Bright: A Weekend of Holiday Magic and Merriment (December 20-21, 2025)

LIVONIA, MI – As the festive season draws to a close, Livonia is set to deliver a spectacular final weekend of holiday cheer, community spirit, and thrilling entertainment on December 20th and 21st, 2025. From enchanting light displays at Greenmead Historical Park to high-energy sporting events in downtown Detroit, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Greenmead Park Transforms into a Winter Wonderland

The heart of Livonia’s holiday celebrations this weekend will undoubtedly be Greenmead Historical Park.

On Saturday, December 20th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Greenmead hosts its "Night of Lights: Frozen Night." Families can meet beloved characters Anna and Elsa at the Alexander Blue House and witness a live ice sculptor transform a block of ice into a magical "Olaf." The HarmonyTown chorus will fill the Newburg Church with festive tunes from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., while Santa and Mrs. Claus pose for photos. Interactive activities like street hockey, cornhole, player piano tours, and holiday shopping at the A.J. Geer Store round out this magical evening.

The holiday magic continues on Sunday, December 21st, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with "Night of Lights: Holiday Magic." This final night of Greenmead’s formal activities will feature dazzling illusions at the Alexander Blue House and a special performance by Jack "Elvis" Fisher in the Newburg Church. It's the last chance to snap a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Friends Meeting House. Children can enjoy crafts in the Newburg School, parking lot games, and historical building tours. Both "Night of Lights" events have a suggested $10 vehicle donation.

Earlier on Saturday, December 20th, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Greenmead Historical Park also offers the "12 Birds of Christmas" Educational Workshop. In collaboration with the Detroit Bird Alliance, participants can learn about common winter birds, practice with binoculars, and create a hands-on winter craft. This event is best for ages 6+ and costs $10 for residents ($12 for non-residents), with advanced registration required at LivoniaParks.org.

Community Spirit and Dazzling Drives

Beyond Greenmead, Livonia and its immediate surroundings are embracing the season. The Wayne County Lightfest continues its mesmerizing display on both Saturday, December 20th, and Sunday, December 21st, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This five-mile drive-through experience along Hines Park (entry at 7651 N. Merriman Rd.) features over 100,000 lights, an expanded food truck area, and Santa’s mailbox. Entry is $5 per car (cash only).

Community generosity is also on full display with the 26th Annual Holiday Harvest Toy Drive, which runs through Tuesday, December 23rd. Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being collected at the Civic Park Senior Center (15218 Farmington Rd.).

For a more active community celebration, the Christmas PJ Party & Toy Drive will take place on Saturday, December 20th, at 4:00 p.m., at Oasis of Hope Christian Church in the Livonia area. This family-friendly event promises games and holiday activities while supporting a great cause.

Thrilling Sports and Lively Nightlife

For those looking to venture slightly further afield into Metro Detroit, the weekend offers an exciting lineup of major sporting events and vibrant nightlife options.

Sports fans can catch the MSU Basketball vs. Oakland game on Saturday, December 20th, at 12:00 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena, followed by the Detroit Pistons vs. Charlotte Hornets at 7:30 p.m. also at Little Caesars Arena. On Sunday, December 21st, the Detroit Red Wings face the Capitals at 1:00 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena, and the Detroit Lions take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at 4:25 p.m. at Ford Field.

Nightlife enthusiasts have options too. A Playboy Party @ The Atrium is scheduled for Saturday, December 20th, at 8:30 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Southfield (a 21+ event). On Sunday, December 21st, two social gatherings are planned: a Lions vs. Steelers Christmas Party starting at 3:00 p.m. at Flood’s Bar & Grille, and an Ugly Sweater Party @ Halo beginning at 5:00 p.m. at 8070 Greenfield Rd.
