Building a Standard: The "Reload" of Livonia Churchill Girls Basketball

In a conference as talent-heavy and unforgiving as the KLAA, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. But while others focus on the scoreboard, Livonia Churchill is busy building something sturdier: a culture of accountability that refuses to break, regardless of the opponent.
Under the guidance of Coach Dre, the Chargers are currently in a "Reload" phase. It is a season defined by intentionality, where every practice and every huddle is an opportunity to cement a foundation for the future.
The Law of the Hardwood
Every program has rules, but Churchill has a "Law." It serves as the heartbeat of the team and the primary metric for their success this season.
“This team is built on effort, communication, and trust,” says Coach Dre. “‘No one is above the Law’ is a standard we live by every day. It means every player, regardless of role or status, is held to the same expectations. When accountability is shared, it builds trust and unity.”
By making effort and communication non-negotiable, the coaching staff has shifted the focus from the outcome of a single game to the habits that last.
Leading the Way: The Captains
For a culture to take root, it needs strong leadership. Churchill has found that in its three captains: Lina Mood, Ella Clenney, and Skylar McCauley.
This season, these three have been tasked with more than just scoring points. They are the "voice" of the program, challenged to lead through:
- Tone Setting: Bringing the necessary intensity to every practice session.
- Accountability: Holding peers to the "Law" when things get tough.
- Mentorship: Guiding a younger core through the mental hurdles of varsity play.
Their ability to lead by example has created a standard that the rest of the roster—especially the newcomers—has been quick to follow.
The Freshman Spark
While the veterans provide the structure, two freshmen have provided a jolt of energy that suggests the "Reload" won't take long to produce results. Emma Karbowski and Cecilia Hernandez earned spots in the starting lineup on day one.

Success this year is measured by togetherness. Whether it’s speaking up in a moment of confusion or trusting a teammate during a high-pressure defensive stand, the Chargers are proving that their connection is more important than their record.
The future is bright in Livonia, and the foundation is being laid—one "Law"-abiding practice at a time.
