Livonia Stevenson Volleyball Focused on Finish After Strong Regular Season Showing

A Strong Season Foundation

The **Livonia Stevenson Varsity Volleyball** team is setting its sights on the postseason following a highly competitive 2025 campaign that has positioned them well in both local and conference play.

The Spartans currently hold a solid **16-10 overall record** and a commanding **6-1 record in KLAA conference matches**. This success includes securing the title of **Livonia City Champions** for the seventh consecutive year. The team's losses have come primarily against high-level competition, with seven of the ten defeats to teams currently state-ranked.

“The season is going very well to this point for Stevenson Volleyball,” remarked Head Coach Amy Osborn. “We know it won't be an easy road, but this group is definitely up for the fight.”

Conference & Competition Battles

Stevenson has been highly successful in its KLAA East Division matches, winning every set played so far this season within the division. They face one key remaining divisional match against Belleville (10/14) as they look to finalize their claim on the KLAA East Division title.

Their competitive schedule has included tough three-set matches against strong opponents, such as a close loss to Grand Haven earlier in the season and a recent three-set battle against Zeeland East at the Portage Central Mustang Invite.

Coach Osborn highlighted the team's resilience, stating, “We have battled from day one of competition when we went 3 sets with Grand Haven, and this past weekend we battled with HM Zeeland East. We know we are underdogs going into Beast of East this weekend, but that will not stop this group of ladies from battling and making a statement.”

The Spartans' performance has been underpinned by strong team statistics, led by a core group of seniors:

• **Aggressive Serving:** Stevenson's strategic approach to serving has been effective, with the team currently posting a 93.6% accuracy rate and accumulating 187 aces. Senior **Addie Boven** (committed to Madonna University) leads this effort, serving at 98.9% accuracy with 56 aces this season and is on track to surpass 250 career aces.
• **Offensive Power:** The offense is anchored by Senior Outside Hitter **Kennedy Hinkle** (committed to Northwood University), who has recorded 270 season kills and is nearing 800 career kills with a .292 attack efficiency. Junior Outside Hitter **Madi Schleif** (130 kills), Senior Middle Hitter **Saige Zoro** (105 kills), and Senior **Gabriella Yancura** (62 kills) provide crucial offensive contributions.
• **Defense & Setting:** The defense is led by seniors **MJ Fryberger** (262 digs), **Addie Boven** (205 digs), and **Avery Cipa** (137 digs). Senior **Addie Boven** also orchestrates the offense as the team's setter, accumulating 517 assists this season and tracking toward a 2,000 career assists milestone. **Gabriella Yancura** leads the team's blocking efforts with 40 blocks this season.
• **Reagan Kert**, the team's final senior, has increased her court time this year and is noted for her hard work in the offseason, which has resulted in more court time and a positive presence when in the game.

The Road Ahead

Stevenson is focused on finishing the regular season strong, including a potential high-profile crossover match against the KLAA West's top team (likely Northville) on 10/21, followed by the **KLAA Conference Tournament Gold Bracket** (10/25 at Plymouth). The team is then preparing for the **MHSAA Districts**, which they are scheduled to host starting on November 3rd.
