Together We Thrive Wellness: Building a Healing Space Grounded in Justice and Community

LIVONIA10/25/2025

Together We Thrive Wellness is a Michigan-based mental health group committed to providing culturally competent, socially aware therapy. Their practice is built on a foundation of four core values: Safety, Empathy, Growth, and Social Justice. Using a holistic approach, they emphasize a deep understanding of each person’s unique needs and experiences, believing that therapy must consider how those challenges connect to larger social, cultural, and relational contexts.

A Mission Driven by Equity and Inclusion and Therapeutic Philosophy

Founded by Dr. Amanda Kopp, PsyD, LP, the practice grew out of a desire to challenge the systemic barriers—such as structural inequalities, discrimination, and marginalization—that often prevent marginalized communities, particularly people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals, from accessing quality mental healthcare.

Dr. Kopp explains that her decision to found Together We Thrive was born from a series of moments realizing her values no longer aligned with former professional partners. “There was no single moment,” she says, “but rather an accumulation of experiences that showed me the need for a space in Livonia that was more inclusive and socially driven.” She wanted to create a practice where community connection and social awareness guide the therapeutic process—where both clients and clinicians could feel aligned with the mission of equity and care.

Dr. Kopp adds, “Community is a cornerstone to my values. I came from a family that taught me that caring for others makes us all better. My doctoral training emphasized social justice as a foundation of mental health care—because if we ignore the societal forces shaping people’s lives, we miss major factors affecting their ability to thrive.”

Her philosophy reflects in how she raises her own family: “I’m raising three boys, and it’s important to me that they grow up understanding privilege and inclusion. They often join me at community events and volunteer opportunities so they can see firsthand the importance of advocating for others.”

Specialized Care and Therapeutic Modalities

The clinicians at Together We Thrive Wellness guide individuals through a wide range of mental health challenges, emphasizing compassion and evidence-based care. Their modalities include Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Brainspotting for trauma, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).

  • Perinatal Mental Health: Support for individuals and couples navigating the emotional challenges of pregnancy and early parenthood.
  • Anxiety and OCD: Targeted use of ERP and Brainspotting to manage anxiety and obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
  • Trauma and Depression: Helping clients process trauma and reshape negative thinking through Brainspotting, CBT, and EFT.

Engaging Beyond the Walls

At Together We Thrive Wellness, therapy doesn’t end when the session does. The belief that “true growth happens when individuals are engaged in their communities” is at the core of their mission.

Dr. Kopp elaborates: “Being active with organizations like Livonia Goodfellows and LEARN (Livonia Equity Anti-Racism Network) lets us hear from even more people—those who may never set foot in a therapy office. These connections help us understand what our community truly needs to thrive.”

  • Livonia Goodfellows – “No Child Should Go Without Christmas” campaign.
  • LEARN diversity and pull-over prevention events.
  • Postpartum Support International – advocacy for perinatal mental health.
  • Local food and clothing drives and wellness kit creation for those facing housing or food insecurity.

This direct involvement shapes their understanding of Livonia’s evolving needs, reinforcing their belief that mental health and social connection go hand in hand.
